Nasmat Hawa - Breath

The partner organisation Palestine Sports for Life (PS4L), with which Frieda implements the "Khutwa - Step by Step" project in the West Bank, has been tirelessly providing emergency aid for children and young people in the refugee camps in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of the Gaza war.

In the midst of the ongoing Israeli military offensive and the humanitarian catastrophe, the staff are doing an incredible job. After each new displacement, the teams reorganise and regroup in order to be able to support as many children as possible. In 2025, they reached over 45,000 children in refugee camps with psychosocial leisure activities.

During the trauma-sensitive, playful activities, learning materials such as pens, paper, colouring books, toys or modelling clay are distributed to keep the children occupied. The PS4L teams work creatively with the materials that are available on site.

The PS4L teachers also teach around 600 children in temporary learning rooms in Arabic, maths, science and English. This gives the children a certain amount of structure and normality in their everyday lives, which have been shaped by war, and allows them to take a break for a few hours from the daily stress and trauma of displacement and bombing.
